What are the best things? (recommendations thread?)

I recommend the Xeelee Sequence books by Stephen Baxters. SciFi of a solid 10 on the Moh scale of hardness, and at the same time more weird, fantastic and fucked up than 90% of your normal Space Opera schlock. If you want SciFi that spans literally the entire lifetime of the universe, go check this stuff out.

Remember the soundtrack to Fallout POS? anyways the guy who did that soundtrack actually makes pretty good music.

Devin Townsend is one of the coolest people in Metal. Not only is he certainly one of the most talented vocalists, but he's also a fantastic entertainer and basically the nicest guy ever.

He has five times the stage presence of any other given Metal artist, playing alone to an empty room.

/Edit: If you haven't heard of Devin Townsend, he's a canadian musician with a long and illustrious career. Basically, he got big when he went to sing for Steve Vai:

Then he hit it big with his project Strapping Young Lad, which is probably the reason Canadians are nice and peaceful, because all their anger was in that band:

As the insanity of Strapping Young Lad went on, he explored the boundaries of Metal and hairstyles, while also producing some nicer musical trips under the "Devin Townsend Project" name.
His discography as solo artist, guest artist, and producer is IMMENSE.

Don't really know much Canadian music stuff, except for older metal band Annihilator, Jeff Waters is a pretty good guitarist.

The band also had nice patches you could sow onto those 'heavy metal denim vests'.

Watch Spiderverse, it's the only good Superhero movie, other than Logan and Deadpool 2, to have come out in the last 5 years.

Saw them live twice in the earlier 90s. Once in the old New Haven Collisseum with Primus as the opener. Extremely talented band.

Yeah, I was going to mention RangerBoo, but she only seems to pop up every now and then. Certainly none of them are as active as me. I work from home so I have a lot of time to be here.
Love it here but sadly I have been busy as of late. Got RL stuff with my little brother that took up a bit of my time. Also been trying to get a job and have also been obsessed these past weeks playing ATOM: RPG. Damn good game and worth the 15 bucks.

Okay so i'm all caught up on Vinland Saga. Just finished Book 10 some hours ago.
Can't say i love it as much as one piece but it was pretty great @Walpknut
liked it enough to spend around 200 bucks on it rather than just pirating it. that's saying something.
looks good on the shelf.
11/10 would recommend.

also recently saw Battle Royale.
its a really great movie no doubt but its kinda just really elevated schlock, like a Quentin Tarantino movie. its a B-movie but the twist is talented people worked on it. is the hunger games but if it was jaws.

i don't even know what 'm trying to say anymore.

point is its pretty great you should watch it but know that the director's cut is gay.

Please tell me you’ve all heard of Rush

I've heard them on radio many times, but mostly earlier on when radio was mostly the only way to hear 'pop music', lol. You are such a young one and grew up with Internet etc. that you probably find all that radio-stuff really funny.

Nah, I listen to the radio in my car. It’s alright brother.

I also said I wouldn’t mention history anymore, but if you want something medieval check out Dan Jones; he wrote The Plantagenets (my favorite book of all time),

I have read this. What makes it your favourite? It was ok but there are better popular histories....

Young Justice is the only good Superhero Anything (besides Spiderverse) in the last 2 years. Those of you living in the US, support it please so it gets renewed for a fourth season. Season 3 has been fucking awesome so far, and with them being on a streaming service rather than on Cartoon Network, they aren't pulling any punches with the story line.
Also they made an experimental episode to explain what happened to a character in between seasons and they did a parody of Teen Titans GO, which had been making jokes about YJ cancellation, and they even used the VAs from that show.

If anyone is a fan of space-based sci-fi and looking for a good TV show to watch I would recommend Farscape. Too bad they took it off Netflix.

To repeat some recommendations

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Angel
  • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
  • Doctor Who (specifically nu-who because that's what I've watched)
  • One piece (manga because the anime has become almost unwatchable)
  • Scrubs (ignoring season nine, which was basically a spin-off, a near perfect sitcom)
I bought the complete series of Babylon 5 on a complete gamble. Never even seen a clip of the show in my life. Here's hoping this pays off.
