You can use either the one or the other. If you want to use both, you have to install them in correct order.
Are you talking about the patches? Last time I checked RP consisted of one part which includes invasion and restored caravans.

I already took the part 2 files (been checking file names/modification date) from that one package (fixed bug with beer and booze). Hope nothing will get fucked

No, not the patches. You have to install them in correct order. What I mean is the RP. I downloaded it in two parts from here.

Ehh, are you not answering me because my question has already been answered a couple of times in previous pages on the thread, and/or the solution is noted on an obvious place?

First of all you have outdated version of patches from some third-party source. Check links in hakimio's post on the previous page for authentic up to date versions.
Second your problem is obviously NT6.1 aka Windows7. Very very bad choice for "retro-gaming". And since it's laptop so called XP mode most probably not an option.
It's been reported that killing explorer.exe before running the game could help with palette glitches. If it fails you could try to force 16-bit color video-mode via Sfall ini-file. But beware this could make in-game videos unplayable. And finally, if it's a dithering problem, you could try Mash's hi-resolution patch.

Thank you very much! I found out that this bug affects my Fallout 2 as well.

I would apply the latest patch, but I don't know if it's compatible with my savegames.

Turning off the explorer.exe made it impossible to launch the game after that, but first launching the game and THEN turning explorer.exe seems to fix the glitch.

Also, I didn't saw any settings for 16bit with sfall, but there was a dx9 mode that did fix this too. The videos were glitchy, but I can watch them on YouTube, so I guess this is not a problem.

I don't know if the hi-resolution patch can fix this. I don't know if it's compatible with my current version, and will my savegames be playable again.

Anyway, I'm sticking to the dx9 option. It works perfectly, and I don't really need to see the videos.

P.S. It's so good to see how wonderful are Fallout's graphics again.

Hi

Are there any mods or way to script Fallout 2 so that player will be able to choose perk at every level up?

Nothing like this exist. Also it would break the game balance very hard.

maybe with an editor, look into falche, you may be able to give yourself extra perks. never used it.

You might be able to create such a mod with sfall. But like written above... it would totally ruin the balance of the game.

Ok. Thanks for the replies so far.

I already looked into things few days ago. First I tried Falche and some other save game editor which name escapes my mind (made by Russians anyway). I didn't find any strings related to perk rate. I assume it is hard coded then? IMO adding the perks just with FALCHE would give the exciting feeling away when you shuffle through the list. :)

Then I tried to goofy around with sfall. Though I've modded and scripted some other games, edited source code and compiled programs using common logic (don't have programming skills), I'm too stupid to use this. Any tips would be welcome.

Then it occured if perk rate is hard coded, and since people have found perks (and traits?) in the exe, maybe there is a possibility to tinker the Skilled trait and change the perk rate value on that if it has been coded that way.

Also Lexx don't worry, I won't force you to play it. :)

Well, I wouldn't play it anyway. Just saying that Fallout 1 and 2's gameplay is different than Fallout 3's, so these perks every level can't work out good. I'd say it's even more worse than playing the game with some all SPECIAL stats 10 character.

I don't wish to turn this to some ideological issue. I don't care about balance. I don't care how people play their games. I don't know why you mixed Fallout 3 into this, I haven't played it nor want to. I have played Fallout 2 for nearly 12 years with half a dozen full and dozens of near full unmodded walkthroughs. Give me some slack. Please anyone, even instructions on where and how to mod it would be helpful for starters.

Because in Fallout 3 you gain perks with every level. And everyone - so far - who wanted perks every level, wanted it because of Fallout 3.

Why do it nanually? Create inside your Fallout2 directory following cmd-file and use it to run the game. It's just a generic example which could be googled easy. Suitable for other old games with similar problem as well.

Code:
taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
fallout2.exe
explorer.exe

Hey there, long-time lurker (like, really long-time), but it's been ages since I've replayed F2 and now, with the soon-to-be-released New Vegas which I'm oddly hopeful about (yeah, I know, I probably shouldn't be) I've decided to stage one more walkthrough. However, I've never played any F2 mods and don't really know much about them. Of course, I could spend hours digging through forum threads and wikis, but I've decided to try cheating first and asking for help :)

So, my questions are:
Are the mods compatible with each other? If I understood correctly, Mega Mod seems to integrate other mods into it, but is it stable, and are the mods integrate into it good enough? What about Restoration Pack, is it integrated as well, or should I choose one of them?
FYI, I tend to prefer quality over quantity and talking over fighting. Any interface modifications would be most helpful, too (like scrolling, or widescreen, or higher resolution). Oh, and nothing drastically different from the familiar lore, please. Mothership Zeta was enough (ugh). Also, not looking forward to dealing with bugs.
