Which mods/patches for Fallout 1&2?

Alright, I got Fallout running with all of the mods you guys suggested, but there's a problem.

It runs like shit in any resolution above the default, and I don't know why. I'm pretty sure my computer should be capable of running a game that was released a decade ago with more ease than this.

Playing f2 for the first time - the perfect experience?

Hi,

I'm not new to the fallout franchise as I played F3 on a console and I quite enjoyed it so decided to boot up my laptop pc to find other fallout games.

I absolutely loved fallout tactics, I can't quite explain why... I switched it entirely to turn based and some of the missions like protecting the ghoul compound from the supermutants are really entertaining.

Next I want to experience fallout2 and finish it, now, obviously I'm going to wait until that restoration project 2.0 is done as it seems to be the smart thing to do.

My question is besides RP 2.0 what else do I need to provide the ultimate fallout2 experience? is there a resolution mod and a mod with updated graphics for maps and models etc?

There's a high resolution patch for Fallout 1 and 2, but it just gives you more viewing area, and you might notice some black borders in maps that were to fit the old resolution.

And as you have found out, we're all waiting for RP 2.0. Just go for Fallout 1(the engines in 1 & 2 are pretty identical, with the exception of some interface changes and some bug fixes), and when you finish it(you'll give it many playthroughs), RP 2.0 might be out and you'll be on a non-stop slew of Fallout greatness.

Most people say that Fallout 1 is better than Fallout 2 and I agree with that (even before knowing that most people think alike). My suggestion is to download the latest unofficial Fallout 1 patch and play it.

And, to your question, I say first you either play the game with the latest official patch, in case you want to see it absolutely as it was created - including bugs and everything, or the latest unofficial, all it does is bugfixes, they are 800+. I suggest you wait about a week or so until RP 2.0 comes out. Then there will be a new, better version of the latest patch. If you've already tried the game, try playing with a stupid character (Intelligence = 3 or lower). It's really funny, though it's not very easy.

I dunno, I've always had a certain affection for Fallout 2, with inane pop culture references and all. There are plenty of things I would change, sure, but if you take it for what it is, it's a damn good game.

Going to Replay FO1&2 - Questions

Hi,

I want to replay the awesome games but I'm a bit lost on the mods and unofficial patches.
I was wondering if someone can guide me a little.

Regarding Fallout 2 I think it's simple enough:
1. Use Official Patch
2. Install Killapp's RP
As far as I understand the RP contains most of the important fixes and add-ons, unless I'm missing something?

Regarding Fallout 1 I have no idea, since it's been more then 10 years since I played that. I used to replay Fallout 2 a lot, but stopped with Fallout 1. I didn't even know the official patch removed the 2nd time limit
So what patches/mods/add-ons are important for Fallout 1?

I appreciate any answers regarding both games :)

TIA

Fallout 2 necessary files?

I just downloaded the most recent Fallout 2 Restoration file, and I'm curious, do I need to use the official patch or any other patch with it? I also used the encounter booster too, anything else I might need?

Thanks everyone,

C

You do not need to install official patch with Killap's project. Just install RP and play. Though smart thing would be to wait another week for release which would fix most of remaining issues with the latest release.

Hello!

So I got this Fallout Collection DVD (White Label) and installed Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 (not interested in Fallout Tactics).

Of course I am interested in eliminating as many bugs as possible from the game but the informations I found here and there didn't completely make it clear to me how I am supposed to do it.

So I have a series of questions:

1) Does it matter what version (UK/US) of Fallout and Fallout 2 I have in order to install the patches?

2) Considering I am exclusively interested in bug fixing, does the following installation order sound correct for Fallout 1?

- Installation of Fallout (v1.2 is reported)
- Installation of TeamX's 1.2.1 semiofficial patch
- Installation of TeamX's 1.3.5 unofficial patch

2) Considering I am exclusively interested in bug fixing, does the following installation order sound correct for Fallout 2?

- Installaltion of Fallout 2 (v1.0 is reported)
- Installation of 1.02d official patch
- Installation of Killapp's latest unofficial patch

3) I read about Timeslip's sfall mod for Fallout 2 and I am very confused about what it is compatible with and whether it'd be a desirable modification to have installed in my case

4) Do you have any tips (I'd like an opinion about the High Resolution patch)?

Thank you!

patch fallout 1 french

Hi,
Where can i get the latest fallout 1 patch including french?
I heard TeamX did a great work on it, but I Can't understand anything on their russian website ...
thanx

I first installed Fallout 1, then "Fallout_1_TeamX_Patch_ENG_1.2w", and after that "f1v.1.3.4_patch.exe" - and I've chosen the version that includes sfall, and is for "win2k-xp-vista". Then I play the game (no compability options). And all the colors are a little screwed up - it's still playable, but it's not very pleasant. What am I doing wrong? I am using Windows 7, on a laptop.

[Solved]Edit: Now I am getting that I don't have enough hard drive space, and I can't run the game - it used to run fine yesterday. Please, somebody reply![/Solved]

Edit2: I can't believe it was THAT simple - the solution was noted in a sticky, in the Fallout RPG Gameplay & Tech! I feel kinda stupid now. However, the first problem (with the graphics) remains.

Which mods for fallout 1 ?

I'm playing F2 with RP 2.1 but there is not so much info about fallout 1 ,,, are there any fix mods ?

Yes, there are unofficial patches and Restoration Project (I'd say it's in somewhat pre-alpha stage).
Here is the installation order:
1) 1.2 semi-official patch
2) 1.3 unofficial patch
3) NPC Mod
4) Restoration Project

Personally, I'd say that patches and NPC mod are MUST install, but wouldn't really recommend playing with RP or at least you should edit *_INVADED_DATE variables in DATA\DATA\VAULT13.GAM (I think at least 150 should be added to the numbers).

On a side: do I need to install first part of RP (invasion) to get second part working, or can I skip part one, and enjoy only second?

You can use either the one or the other. If you want to use both, you have to install them in correct order.

I personally don't like the invasion-part, as it really makes you to hurry a lot, which is not cool for my playstyle.
