Gamespot Gameplay Video is Up

Also, he could just be asking for the help of many people, and judging from the reactions like "WHY DO PEOPLE EXPLODE FROM ONE BULLET", I'd assume that many people on THIS forum don't know what Bloody Mess does either.

At least we know that it is should be a trait, instead of a perk. And that you shouldn't gain a perk every level. And there shouldn't be a level cap. And you shouldn't be able to cap someone's ass with a fatman at point-blank range in VATS. And that VATS is not turn based. And that turn based was the combat medium in which the original developers envisioned the game. And that the developers at Bethesda are more comfortable comparing Fallout 3 to Oblivion than to its predecessors.

Where am I going with this? Nowhere. Pretty much the same place you're going with that remark about bloody mess. It's not that we don't think it should blow chunks out of people, but they could have 1-uped Fallout 1/2 by making it area specific, instead of having random parts of your enemies bodies flying everywhere. BIS didn't have the time or resources to make hundreds of more sprites - Bethesda just thinks that this kind of violence is funny.

You do know that the map screen was always in the PipBoy?
Sorry, to clarify: I'd prefer that the map screen fill up the whole screen, instead of being portrayed in "real time" on the player character's wrist.

Yeesh.

damn i was hoping for some different kinds of footage. oh well

Let's get one thing clear right now: this is it. This is the public gameplay demo. It's all we'll get to see, with slightly different approaches.

It doesn't look like it contains any possibility for dialogue.

The worst way a person can die. Not the most unrealistic/ridiculous one. I don't see ridiculous blood clouds and all four limbs flying off in random directions in this picture. Do you?

When the woman asked Todd about whether or not people would be able to fallow the fallout story........Am I the only person that felt sad when Todd Howard said, and I quote "we assume that players have not played the original fallout games"

Now now, let's not be condescending. Not everyone has played fallout, these games actually didn't have much marketing. Also, he could just be asking for the help of many people, and judging from the reactions like "WHY DO PEOPLE EXPLODE FROM ONE BULLET", I'd assume that many people on THIS forum don't know what Bloody Mess does either.
there's a difference between tearing out half a lung with a single bullet or vaporizing half a person's torso with a burst and randomly disconnecting limbs from a bullet in the head.

the first is fun, the latter absurd. learn the difference.

Why is the Bloddy Mess perk being so featured anyway?...IMOHO, It is pretty useless...I tend to like perks that do more than show eye candy.

I stopped the video in the part the nuclear bomb hits the player, and in the upper top right it says "+1 RAD/SEC".

An atomic bomb exploded right on your head and you only get 1 radiation point per second??

Maybe it was toned down for the demo, so that the explosions on the enclave guys doesn't radiate Todd like there's no tomorrow, but I doubt it anyway.

I don't like Bethesda and I never did, I wish Interplay was still here, the real time option though might be interesting Turn-by-turn got tedious at times.

Sure enough, the bloody mess in this game IS a bit much, but in the originals it was pretty hefty too. A single punch would take out half the torso and an arm.

I don't really plan to use it, because it just sort of looks irritating, but I'm somewhat glad it's still in there.

I'm one of those people who agrees that, although this is a bastardization of the original concepts of fallout, this game may be fun in it's own way.

They are, still, kind of "here." But keep in mind - they are the ones that fucked over BIS. BIS and Troika are the companies I truly wish were still here.

Nonsense.

Interplay TSR Studio (the maker of Fallout) or BIS (the maker of Fallout 2) was never an independent entity and could never have existed if it wasn't for the open, by gamers for gamers nature of Interplay.

Not to say Interplay didn't screw up in the end with TORN/Jefferson/Van Buren, but games like Fallout and Planescape: Torment are what they are exactly because a major company was willing to back such B-List products fully - including expensive animations and voice actors - without expecting AAA profits. That was fairly unique, and won't happen again.

Well, that was more of what I was talking about. However, fair enough with the "Nonsense" claim. I guess they did publish some great games before they also targeted the less... sophisticated gamers.

EDIT:
Also, should have used the word "game developers" as opposed to "companies." I post all this shit during downtime at work, so it's rush-rush.

[Let's just say that we wish the pre-Herve Interplay was still there. Not to say that Fargo didn't have his own list of fuck-ups.

I am honestly working hard on the time field generator people, but it will take time. (no pun intended)

HAHAHA this game looks like shit!

i've held on to my slim hopes for as long as possible, but this video is really the last straw. everything just looks awful!

i wanted to laugh out loud at how stupid the ai was at the end of the video, dropping his weapon to charge in with fists held high (exact oblivion pose) and then change his mind and run back and crouch and try to get some shots off... all while todd just stands there and shoots. its exactly like oblivion. such a shame.

if it weren't fallout being bastardized here, i'd be laughing hysterically.

i guess we know now why they were so reluctant to show us some footage... it all sucks!

/cry

I used to get the feeling that the original bloody mess happened in ways that 'might just happen', you know, if the other person was just extremely unlucky, had a damaged shoulder, my buckshot was perhaps just loaded with a little too much powder. Yeah perhaps an arm might come off, or if he's unlucky a chunk of meat from some other random place.

But when I shoot someone in the head I refuse to accept that the body degrades into neatly stackable limbs as if some expert serial killer has just performed an evening of cleaning up after his favourite pastime. Exploding heads, limbs that detach themselves with a nice blood spatter, all fine with me as long as that's where the radius of the impact could have actually had any effect. But I'll eat my 7000 words paper on medieval feuds if my legs falls of when I'm shot in the head.

See, that doesn't sound very plausible at all does it?

I liked how the death animations in Fallout 1 & 2 where pre-rendered. Real-time rag-doll deaths are fine for first person shooters, but I just think about how many different awesome pre-rendered death animations we could have had if FALLOUT 3 had been turn based. And why is everything so jampacked into that little pipboy3000 and displayed in green "Apple II style" fonts and images?!? I realy liked the original inventory screen which had cool color images and such.

I see all the little gripes and minor issues being brought up that I agree with, but on the whole this looks a lot less disappointing than I first assumed.

I am actually getting a little excited to play it.
